meet Jessica Smith

Written by award-winning Australian Paralympic swimmer, internationally recognised advocate for diversity & inclusion, and disability awareness, Jessica Smith

The “Just Jessica” series, draws on her own experiences and follows the heart-warming story of a young girl living with one hand.

Through storytelling Jessica aims to help young people feel comfortable talking about complex issues, and in doing so, develop a deeper understanding of diversity and inclusion, build self-confidence, emotional & social intelligence, and social & interpersonal skills.

Jessica wanted to created resources with characters that represent diversity, something she rarely saw in books when she was growing up.

“I never saw myself in childrens books or in the media when I was growing up, and as a result, I questioned my appearance and identity. Children need to see themselves, because when they see themselves they feel validated… every child deserves validation.”

Each book explores friendship, kindness and acceptance … something every child (and adult) should read about.
